Logic behind the FURUNO INSTC:
Supplying Safety through Education
FURUNO INS Training Center (INSTC) was established in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2005. It is the first maritime training center, organized by an equipment manufacturer, to offer an ECDIS training course certified by DNV (Det Norske Veritas).
The sole aim of this training center is to educate the navigators on proper operation of the equipment in any conceivable condition. ECDIS, Integrated Navigation System and Track Control System has eased, to a certain extent, vessel operation and raise the safety level of navigation through presentation of a great amount of information in an easily-understandable fashion. However, at the same time, the navigation system as a whole has become complicated. Consequently, it became imperative for the navigators to comprehend the concept and design behind INS. That is to say, if anything in the system fails it is necessary that the navigator should have enough knowledge of the system to identify the cause of failures and take the necessary counter measures. This has been the background from which FURUNO INSTC was established.
